Electrical Methods

Roof Control proofs the tightness by 2 electrical methods:

Electrical Resistance (Leopoma Method)

Leopoma Method is an electrical method to inspect the roof sealing. This system can be used on almost every kind of flat roof with the exception of EPDM Membrane.

Laopoma Method is especially recommended for such roofs: green roofs, inverted roofs, ballasted roofs. It can show directly and precisely the leakage, without harming the roof layers. The measure set contains two main parts: generator module and detector.

The electric impulse is taken to the roof layer by installation of circumferential ring with positive sign (+) on the roof surface and a grounded wire with negative sign(-), connected to bottom side of the sealing. (scheme 1,2)

When the short circuit appears, the leakage is detected. Detector is connected to 2 manual sensors, which show the direction of the hole in the sealing. The process can be carried out, independently from the roof layer- gravel or grass. The only indispensible thing is to maintain the accurate level of moisture. The whole process requires well trained technicians. Their knowledge and experience ensure, that the results will be properly interpreted and directly reveal the places of the leaks.

Typical kinds of roofs, where can be used Laopoma method:

Reinforced concrete Concrete contains high amount of water. Even when the surface looks dry, the water in material is enough to carry out the process.

Steel Construction Steel Construction under the roof sealing makes the best conditions to carry out the measurements.

Wooden roof Despite the fact, that the wood does not conduct electricity, the Laopoma method is also possible there. Wires of the impulse generator need to be connected in the right manner.

Electrical method with dry surface thanks to the mobile electric generator

One of the most advanced techniques to find the leakage on the flat roof is the electrical method with mobile generator. The test sets, offered by our company allow to efficiently and quickly proof the nonconductive layers of the roof sealing and also show the defects of the porous material. The offered measurement technique is widely used in petrochemical, building, aircraft, installation and plastic industries.

While carrying out the detection, the roof surface has to be dry. Taking into account the roof sheathing’s thickness, we calculate the right electrical impulse. The electricity during the research need to be checked dependently from the place, to keep the surface unharmed.

Leak detection is carried out by electrode, made of bronze with luminofor or special roller to smooth surfaces. This method is connected with dielelectrical strength ie. homogenous, electric field strength, in which the dielectric will be flashover. After crossing this value, dielectric will conduct. Exceeded value causes material destruction- that is why the proper voltage is so important.

Typical kinds of roofs, which can be checked out with the electric method, equiped with mobile generator:

Reinforced concrete roof Concrete has in itself a large amount of water. Even when the surface is dry, the moisture of material is enough to carry out the leak detection. The lack s in the roof sealing allow closing the electrical circumference thanks to the concrete and finally alarms the sensor.

Steel construction Steel construction under the roof sheathing, leads to circumference closing, which causes signal on the generator.

Wooden roof Although bearing construction is electrical neutral, the detection with electric method with dry surface is still possible. The thing is to install the wires in the right manner, to make the electrical circumference closed
